Tenaska Energy Solutions (TES) was created to serve customers who could benefit from a broad array of Tenaska-driven solutions, including generation assets, market knowledge, operational expertise, development capabilities and energy management services.

Over the course of 2021, TES continued to expand its efforts to help customers advance energy solutions, focusing on two key areas: colocation and distributed generation. TES has proven to be a leading developer of interconnection resources for high-density energy users, drawing on the company’s strengths in energy site development, energy management solutions and financial backing.

Energy users seeking to optimize their siting needs took notice — including Core Scientific, the largest blockchain infrastructure and digital asset mining firm in the United States. Core elected to contract with Tenaska for the development of a 300-megawatt (MW) blockchain data center and to provide energy advisory services for the project located in the City of Denton, Texas. Core will retire renewable energy credits for all power used to ensure it is carbon free. Tenaska negotiated the power supply agreement with Denton Municipal Energy and is supplying interconnection and transformer equipment while serving as the project’s energy advisor and overseeing the facility’s integration into the ERCOT grid.

Distributed generation — which allows for the generation of electricity onsite, rather than generating in a large, centralized facility and transmitting over the electric grid — is another growing area of focus. Commercial and industrial customers pursuing distributed generation can access Tenaska’s net metering solutions, tax equity investments and development expertise to help support their sustainability and reliability goals.
